How to choose incense products?
Due to the use of natural medicinal herbs in traditional incense, it generally does not have a strong aroma at room temperature.
If you carefully smell it, there will be a scent of various medicinal herbs, but it will not be overly strong, overwhelming, or irritating to the eyes and nose.
Only when lit, there will be a subtle fragrance, which is soothing and elegant, with a lingering aftertaste.
Strictly speaking, traditional incense does not have bright and vivid colors. Even if there is some color, it is the natural color of the medicinal herbs.
Traditional incense, due to the constraints of medicinal herbs and the desired effects, may not have the smoothness and flexibility of incense crafts on the surface. Upon closer observation, there may be small granular particles on the surface of the incense.
In terms of functionality, most of the traditional natural incense products have common basic characteristics, such as promoting circulation, improving vitality, enhancing wisdom and intelligence, harmonizing the five internal organs, and benefiting the mind and body.
As the formulas and effects of traditional natural incense may vary, each incense has its own personality, with special requirements for ingredients, production techniques, and aging time.
In particular, some unprocessed medicinal herbs, such as sandalwood, which has a fiery nature, when used as a single ingredient incense without processing, may cause agitation and difficulty in achieving a calm state of mind.
Similarly, many agarwood powders on the market may not be genuine, as some are made from grinding the branches and leaves of other fragrant woods, while others are made from the resin of processed agarwood. Prolonged use of such agarwood powders may cause excessive dispersion of personal energy, resulting in Qi deficiency and fatigue. Users of incense should be aware of this.
